About the project
The National Hannie Schaft Foundation was established in 1996 to commemorate resistance fighter Hannie Schaft and keep her legacy alive. The foundation aims to raise awareness about the consequences of extremism, fascism, racism and discrimination.
Over the years, it became clear that commemoration alone wasn't enough. The issues the foundation stands for are perhaps more relevant today than ever. This called for a different approach: less remembrance, more activation. And with that, a new target audience: young people, without losing the older generation.
I developed a visual identity that connects both generations. The style fits the current zeitgeist but maintains a tangible connection to the past. Powerful and urgent, without being distant.

from monument to mark
I modernized the logo while keeping its character and strenght. It still references the "Vrouw in verzet" monument (woman in resistance), but shifts from a literal depiction to a more conceptual approach. The sculpture was created by Truus Menger-Oversteegen, a fellow resistance fighter and friend of Hannie, as a tribute to her.
